What is Bill C-270?
Bill C-270, also known as the Stopping Internet Sexual Exploitation Act, or SISE, is a private member’s bill introduced to parliament by MP Arnold Viersen.
For years, pornography companies have published sexually explicit material without any requirement to verify the age or consent of those depicted in them. Much of the content is then monetized to bring in big profits.
Whether it is child exploitation, sex trafficking, AI deepfakes, secret filming/spy cams, or an intimate encounter filmed by a partner, once a video has been uploaded, it is virtually impossible to eliminate. This starts an endless nightmare for victims who must fight to get these videos removed, only for them to be reuploaded within minutes or hours.
Companies should not be able to profit off pornographic content without verifying the age and consent of every individual in every video they create or publish.
The SISE Act places the burden of due diligence and corporate responsibility on companies and rather than survivors and law enforcement.
Our Endorsement
Defend Dignity officially endorses and supports the Stopping Internet Sexual Exploitation Act. Individuals who have been victimized are often faced with the overwhelming task of trying to remove illegal content that should never have been distributed and profited from in the first place. Bill C-270 will help prevent victimization and ensure pornography websites are held accountable for their content.
