I Met With My MP — Here’s How It Went

You’ve often heard us encourage you to talk with your MP about the issues Defend Dignity is working on. Sound kind of intimidating? It really doesn’t have to be!

Summer is often a great time to connect with your MP in a casual setting. You might see them flipping pancakes or frying hamburgers at various community events. They would love for you to come and talk to them!

Why not ask them what they’re passionate about in their work. What do they hope to see accomplished when parliament is back in session in the fall? From there, it’s a good opportunity to share what’s important to you.

And if you want to set aside more time for a conversation with your MP, simply book a quick sit-down at their office. I did this just the other day!

My MP is Fraser Tolmie and we had a great chat about some of the issues Defend Dignity is focused on. It was great to hear that he is highly supportive of different government bills that would better protect our kids online.

We chatted about the Stopping Internet Sexual Exploitation Act (Bill C-270), the Protecting Youth from Exposure to Pornography Act (Bill S-210), and our shared concern for the growing trend of online abuse in the form of AI deepfakes.

Our conversation was positive and constructive. He was happy to make time for me!

Remember, you don’t need to be an expert on a subject to engage with your MP. They just want to hear what matters to you.

So why not try talking with your MP this summer? Find their contact info here and consider calling their office up.

And be sure to let me know how it goes!
